Frequently Asked Questions About Nterprisers Company Profiles

Find answers to commonly asked questions about the pre-built Manufacturing Company Profiles and local Partner Directory Listings in the Nterprisers database.

Where does Nterprisers get the data for each Company Profile?

Nterprisers collects public data from at least three sources for each pre-built Company Profile.

These initial sources include:

  • Government records, such as State business registrations filings
  • Manufacturers' websites, e-catalogs, social media profiles
  • News coverage, online and offline sources

The data is Quality Checked by our research team. We update records with new waves of data collection periodically.

Then, Companies claim their Profiles, verify listing information and further enhance the data.

What types of Manufacturing companies are profiled in Nterprisers?

Nterprisers is a time-saving platform that cuts through the noise by pre-building robust profiles for local Manufacturing businesses.

"Local" is defined as

1) Registered to do business in that market (currently, the states of Rhode Island or Massachusetts)

2) Having at least one Manufacturing location in the state

The majority of profiles are of privately-owned businesses.

Why is my privately-owned Manufacturing company not found on Nterprisers?

We do our best to identify all private businesses that manufacture in a state. (As of October 2025, this includes Rhode Island and Massachusetts; upstate New York will roll out in November/December.) We update our records periodically.

Some of the common reasons for why your may business may not be on Nterprisers are:

  • Your business may not have an active registration with the your state as of our last update.
  • You may have registered your business with the state with a NAICS code that is not a manufacturing NAICS code.
  • You do not actually manufacture in the state. Your manufacturing facilities are out-of-state or overseas.
  • You are not independently owned but are a private subsidiary, branch of a large private or publicly owned company.
  • You are not a manufacturer as defined by the NAICS and US Census Bureau. You may work in the manufacturing industry offering services to manufacturers but may not manufacture yourself.

What are NAICS Codes? The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is the standard used by Federal statistical agencies in classifying business establishments for the purpose of collecting, analyzing, and publishing statistical data related to the U.S. business economy.

NAICS was developed under the auspices of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), and adopted in 1997 to replace the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) system. It was developed jointly by the U.S. Economic Classification Policy Committee (ECPC), Statistics Canada, and Mexico's Instituto Nacional de Estadistica y Geografia, to allow for a high level of comparability in business statistics among the North American countries.

This official U.S. Government Web site provides the latest information on plans for NAICS revisions, as well as access to various NAICS reference files and tools.

How does Nterprisers determine manufacturers' sub-industry and NAICS codes?

NAICS codes are the primary identifier of each manufacturer’s sub-industry within the Manufacturing category. For example, the NAICS code for a machine shop is 332710.

NAICS codes are usually self-assigned when registering businesses with governmental entities. Unfortunately, these codes are frequently incorrect or missing.

Nterprisers attempts to validate, correct or determine the most appropriate code for each manufacturer’s primary sub-industry category.

Our mission is to provide infrastructure for local-for-local manufacturing. NAICS codes do not address where manufacturing operations are being performed.

For example, a manufacturer in another State, may be registered as a manufacturer in the target State, e.g. Rhode island, but may only operate a sales office.

This is why Nterprisers takes the additional step to determine if manufacturing operations are being performed in the target state for each registered manufacturer.

Can any other types of Companies be found in the Nterprisers Platform?

Nterprisers has a vision to make the Manufacturing marketplace work for ALL.

In every local ecosystem, there are important resources that should be visible to Manufacturers.

We call these Local Partners. They can include the state Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), trade associations, workforce development and professional service providers such as commercial lenders.

Some of these Partners will have "cards" in our Partner Directory.
